S.W. O'Connell is a retired U.S. Army officer and Senior Defense Intelligence Executive with over 30 years of experience planning and running intelligence and counterintelligence operations in Europe and worldwide. After leaving the Army, he served in senior civilian intelligence positions with the Department of Defense.
Since beginning his author's journey, S.W. O'Connell has published four books in the Yankee Doodle Spies series: The Patriot Spy, The Cavalier Spy, The Winter Spy, and the recently released The North Spy.
In 2021, he made his first foray into science fiction via the historical time travel tale Envoy of the Lord.
His latest work is a historical fiction thriller set during the celebrated 1824 – 25 tour of America by the Marquis de Lafayette titled The Lafayette Circle, released in January 2024.
When not crafting his stories or walking his Labrador Retriever, Rosie, S.W. O'Connell publishes the Yankee Doodle Spies Blog and the Facebook Page of the same name. He also can be found on Twitter under the profile @SWOConnell
S.W. O'Connell is from New York and lived the early part of his life in Brooklyn, the Bronx, and Queens. His Brooklyn days put him a stone's throw from where the Continental Army first went toe to toe with the British and Hessians during the Battle of Long Island—America's first battle and the opening scene in the Yankee Doodle Spies series.
